City officials are working to improve the lighting at Central Park, in Town Center, as it becomes the hotspot for more and more community events.
The Palm Coast City Council has outlined a plan to spend approximately $150,000 on electrical improvements, sidewalk improvements, and adding benches and trash/recycling receptacles. City Manager Jim Landon noted that it can be dark in Central Park, but the improvements will help.
“Central Park is the No. 1 venue in town now for events,” Landon said at a May 31 workshop.
The electrical improvements include adding more plug-ins for vendors and additional lighting at a cost of about $140,000.
Daytona Beach-based Latour Enterprizes Inc. came in with the lowest bid at $139,999 with a 10% contingency to cover any more costs.
Landon said the electrical work couldn’t be done in-house, but the rest of the work will be done by the city.
City Council member Mary DiStefano said it’s important to know that the city tried to get local companies to bid on the project.
“We keep pushing for local,” she said. “But I think the public needs to understand that we do put it out to locals, and they just don’t answer or they’re not low bids. To me, this is another job that locals should be able to do.”
