The city of Palm Coast’s Public Works/Utility Division TOP OPS team brought home another first-place trophy last week from the American Water Works Association’s 2011 National Competition.

This honor marks the fourth time the TOP OPS ‘Water Buoys’ have taken first place, adding to their two second-place and one third-place finishes over the past years.

Palm Coast TOP OPS team members Fred Greiner, Tom Martens, Peter Roussell and Jim Hogan, will add seven consecutive Florida Championships to their list of national awards.

With the grand total of 14 total national and state victories, the Palm Coast team is now the most successful TOP OPS team in the history of the competition.

Jim Hogan, coach and long-time member of the TOP OPS team, said: “Aside from bringing prominence to Palm Coast, these honors elevate our expertise as operators and assure our citizens that we are knowledgeable about every aspect of the water business. This shows that our entire operations staff is among the best in country.”

The competitions bring utility department teams together from across Florida and the U.S. to answer questions on topics including science, chemistry, hydraulics, water distribution, public health, sanitation and plant operation.
