A male student at Flagler Palm Coast High School was arrested for making threats to another student on social media.

“In Flagler County, we do not take threats like this lightly,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “I hope this young man will learn from this experience that making threats to hurt someone is not how you solve disputes. Parents, I am again asking that you be the Sheriff in your home and monitor what your children are doing on social media. Educate your kids on the proper way to resolve arguments. This will help them today and in the future as adults. When our deputies show up at your door it is too late and saying you don’t remember what was said or that you were only joking is not going to prevent you from being arrested.”

The incident unfolded on May 27, when a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Deputy was contacted by Flagler Palm Coast High School Dean Erin Davis about a report of threats made by one student against another using the app Snapchat.

The deputy met with the reporting party, a juvenile student who attends FPCHS, who advised that she messaged a male student on May 26, using Snapchat to ask if he was going to fight another student at FPCHS. He responded by telling her to "shut the f--- up and mind your own business.” The two then argued for the rest of the Snapchat conversation.

The reporting party stated that during the argument, the male student sent a message saying "Wanna talk s--- imma shoot yo a-- to" and later in the conversation said, "I will b---- it (I know) where you live." The reporting party told the deputy that she was afraid because he has images of him holding firearms on his Instagram and she believes he will shoot her. The reporting party’s mother wished to pursue charges on her behalf.

Deputies made contact with the male student at his residence and questioned him about the incident with his father present via speakerphone. He confirmed that he did have a Snapchat and Instagram account. He advised that he did remember having a conversation with the reporting party and that the conversation got heated but didn't remember exactly what he said.

When asked, he advised that he did not have access to firearms; however, he has an airsoft pistol. When asked, he advised that the firearms in his Instagram posts were his friend's airsoft rifle; however, the rifle pictured did not have an orange tip.The student was arrested and transported to Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility without incident. He is charged with Sending Written Threats to Commit Bodily Injury. He was taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility for processing and then transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Daytona Beach.
