Palm Coast resident Richard Kuhn, 79, dies in car crash on U.S. 1

Kuhn was driving when he had a medical problem, and the car veered off the road and struck a tree.

A 79-year-old Palm Coast man died May 9 when the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe he was driving veered off the road and struck a tree.

The man, Richard Kuhn, was driving north on U.S. 1 north of Palm Coast Parkway at about 4:43 p.m. when the crash happened.

Joan Kuhn, 77, and Tracy Kuhn, 51, were in the passenger seats.

Richard Kuhn "suffered a sudden unknown medical emergency," according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, and the car swerved onto the grass on the east side of the road, struck a tree, and came to rest facing north.

Richard Kuhn died at the scene of the crash, and Joan Kuhn was taken to Halifax Medical Center with serious injuries. Tracy Kuhn had minor injuries, according to the news release.
