Katherine May Sanford, 85 and a resident of Palm Coast, died the night of Dec. 14 in a car crash on U.S. 1 at Seminole Woods Boulevard.

Sanford was driving south on U.S. 1 in a 2014 Toyota Camry at 8:09 p.m. and went to make a left turn onto Seminole Woods Boulevard, according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

As she did so, she pulled out in front of a northbound 2016 Honda CRV driven by Palm Coast resident Leslie Williams, 51, who was in the inside lane of U.S. 1, according to the news release.

The front of the CRV struck the rear passenger door of the Camry, sending both vehicles into a spin. Both came to rest facing south in the intersection.

Sanford was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, where she died. Williams had no injuries, according to the news release.

The crash was the second fatal crash on U.S. 1 within the last few days and the third fatal crash in Flagler County within a week: On Dec. 13, Bunnell resident Eddie Collins, 62, died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle rollover crash on U.S. 1 on Dec. 10. On Dec. 7, Palm Coast resident Joseph Faircloth, 38, died in a motorcycle crash on Rickenbacker Drive.
