City Manager Jim Landon indicated at the July 19 City Council meeting that the 90% building permit fee reduction would be renewed at the end of this year.
“That was always the intent,” Landon said.
The issue was raised by Jason DeLorenzo, liaison for the Flagler Home Builders Association (and City Council candidate), in the public comment portion of the meeting.
“In June 2009, you approved the permit fee reduction, and to date, the residents of Palm Coast have saved nearly $1.4 million," he said. "It is set to sunset this year, and through discussions with staff, it is expected that $3.2 million will remain in (the building department fund) in December.”
He suggested that, considering the building department’s yearly budget is about $1 million, it would be appropriate to extend the reduced fee schedule for one more year.
Building department funds may only be spent on the building department itself and are not transferrable to other budget items.
