A 21-year-old man fired a handgun into the air during an argument with his girlfriend in Palm Coast's Woodlands neighborhood on Jan. 11, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect, Jordan Munoz, was angry about his girlfriend communicating with another man, according to the woman's account to deputies. Munoz faces two felony charges — discharging a firearm in public, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon — plus a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery, according to his arrest report.
A witness had called the Sheriff's Office late that night after hearing a gunshot from a home on Blackwell Place. A man and a woman had been arguing in the house's driveway earlier, he told deputies. After the gunshot, the witness heard a door slam and saw a red sedan drive away from the house.
Deputies on their way to the scene passed a Circle K gas station and noticed that a red sedan at the pumps matched the description the witness had given.
The driver was a woman, and she looked distraught, according to the report.
She told deputies that her boyfriend of three weeks, Munoz, had looked through her phone and became angry that she was speaking with another man. Munoz at first refused to return the phone or let her leave the home, then called her derogatory names and shoved her out of the house, she said.
She didn't drive away immediately because she didn't have her glasses or contacts for driving, and wanted to call someone to pick her up.
But Munoz came out of the house, screaming at her to leave, then sat on the trunk of his car.
As she tried to call someone who could give her a ride, Munoz walked over and kicked her car, then pointed a handgun toward the sky and fired one shot, she said.
Munoz walked back inside, and the woman drove away.
Deputies set up a perimeter around the home and detained Munoz when he stepped outside to leave for a friend's house, according to the arrest report.
He told deputies nothing had happened.
Deputies found a .40 caliber shell casing at the end of the driveway, and found a .40 caliber Glock among the firearms in plain view inside the house.
They took the Glock as evidence and arrested Munoz.
