Palm Coast’s firefighters will shed their helmets for zombie masks this Halloween for the 12th annual Hall of Terror.
“If you’re looking for a terrifyingly fun experience this Halloween, you won’t want to miss the Palm Coast Hall of Terror!” said Fire Lt. Rich Cline, who set up this year’s show along with firefighter Dan Driscoll.
He show, directed by Driscoll, will begin with a fake newscast showing the progression of a Palm Coast zombie attack and then lead visitors into the scenes shown in the movie, where firefighters and other city employees and volunteers will make up the cast.
Driscoll, 28, isn’t entirely new to show biz.
The firefighter-paramedic is a certified Darth Maul impersonator with the unofficial Star Wars costuming group the 501st Legion. It took him months create the Star Wars villain’s costume.
“Most of it you just make yourself,” he said. “It took the better part of a year. It started just with the love of the movies, and I was looking for a costume to wear when I go to the conventions.”
The hardest part, he said, is the makeup, which takes about three hours to apply.
That practice with stage makeup came in handy for last year’s Hall of Terror, when Driscoll did the makeup for all of the performers and took part in the show. This year, he’ll be behind the scenes.
The Hall of Terror is for children 10 and up and will be open 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31 at Palm Coast Fire Station 21 at 9 Corporate Drive. The event is free and participants will receive a bag of candy.
