Palm Coast District 2 City Councilman Victor Barbosa is dropping his bid to challenge Flagler County Commissioner Joe Mullins for the District 4 County Commission seat.

Barbosa will instead run for reelection to the District 2 City Council seat.

"I'll be stepping down from the race for Commissioner. I would like to run for reelection in the same position," Barbosa said during a Feb. 15 City Council meeting.

Barbosa made his announcement shortly after the council voted unanimously to appoint Denise Bevan to the Palm Coast city manager position.

To remain in the District 2 City Council seat, he'll face challenges from Sims Jones and Alan Lowe.

Barbosa's withdrawal from the the District 4 County Commission race leaves incumbent Republican Mullins; challenger Bonnie Leann Pennington, also a Republican; and no-party-affiliation candidate Jane Gentile-Youd.
