Palm Coast's utility assistance program began Sept. 28.

Applicants must meet city residency and income requirements. The money is available to both renters and homeowners, according to a city news release.

Applicants must have been city utility customers as of Jan. 21, 2020, must have experienced a loss of income due to COVID-19, and must be considered a low-income household based on size, as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The income limits are a maximum of $60,900 for a family of six, $56,700 for a family of five, $52,500 for a family of four, $47,250 for a family of three, $42,000 for a family of two or $36,750 for a family of one.

The money would provide a credit to the applicant's city utility account equal to six months of bills, and would be used to pay utility bills over six months. The average award is anticipated to be $700.

The money is limited — there is $299,068 available, of which up to 15% may be used for administrative costs — and will be distributed on a first-ready, first-served basis.

The program is funded through the Community Development Block Grant Program as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).

To apply, go to www.palmcoastgov.com/Utility-Assistance. If you are unable to submit the application online, call the city's Customer Service line at 386-986-2360. If your utilities have already been shut off, call 386-986-2360 to make arrangements until your grant application is reviewed.
