Community members turned out at the Central Park in Town Center Monday night for the 20th-annual Taste of Flagler food festival.
Dozens of local chefs and restaurants, including the Atlantic Grill at Hammock Beach Resort, The Humidor and Coastal Cakes served up their creations to attendees, who voted on their favorite entrees and desserts.
Musician David Lane played live music at the event. Taste of Flagler is sponsored by the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce.
High school sweethearts, 60 years later
The first time Palm Coast resident Peter Preiser saw his future wife Marianne, he was captain of his high school’s traffic squad and she was driving the wrong way down one of the school’s one-way streets.
It was 1951, and he pulled her over.
“I was being very fresh and very snippy,” Marianne said. “I guess he liked that challenge.”
Now the couple, married 56 years, is heading back to Scarsdale High School in New York for their 60th reunion.
They couple began dating not long after that meeting at school when they were both juniors, and married after college. Their first high school class together was called “current problems.”
“We’ve had ‘current problems’ ever since,” Marianne Preiser said, laughing.
Marianne Preiser became a teacher, and Peter Preiser served in the Navy and then became a systems engineer for IBM.
They have lived in Palm Coast since 2002.
