Ormond Beach man, 20, killed in motorcycle crash on I-95 in Flagler County

The motorcyclist struck the rear of an SUV near Mile Marker 280.

A 20-year-old Ormond Beach man died the night of Sept. 16 after crashing his motorcycle into the rear of an SUV on Interstate 95 between the Old Dixie Highway and State Road 100 exits in Flagler County.

The man was riding north at about 11:10 p.m. near Mile Marker 280 on a 2008 Yamaha YZF-R6 sport bike, traveling faster than a Dodge Journey SUV in front of him, according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol. 

The motorcycle struck the back of the Dodge. The motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle, which overturned into the woodline on the eastern shoulder of the road, according to the news release. The Dodge came to rest on the eastern shoulder.

The SUV's driver and passenger, a 43-year-old man and 41-year-old woman respectively, both from Miami, were not injured, according to the news release.

The crash is the second fatality on Flagler County roads this week: Another Ormond man died in the early morning hours of Sept. 14 in a crash at at the roundabout at U.S. 1 and Old Dixie Highway.
