The building that was referred to as the “cheese box” by some in the community doesn’t look so cheesy anymore.

ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, located at the corner of Old Kings Road and Palm Coast Parkway, opened for business Nov. 17. The 10,000-square-foot building is just the third to feature the company’s new design. There are about 150 stores — all in Florida — with as many opening as closing in the last few years, according to Marketing and Communications Manager Lorena Streeter.

“We did make some alterations on the exterior to fit the Palm Coast city requirements, but the interior is identical to our newest stores,” Streeter said.

ABC was founded in 1936, in Orlando. The company will celebrate its 75th anniversary next year.

Streeter said it’s company policy to hire the store manager locally. There are 11 fulltime employees at the store, including 10 from Palm Coast.

The company is officially still ABC Liquors, but about 15 years ago, when the stores started selling more and more wine, many storefront names have changed. Streeter said about 50% of the floor space is reserved for wine.

There will be a wine-tasting event Dec. 15. The cost is $10 and includes a coupon for $5 off. As marketing manager, Streeter of course recommends that everyone come check it out.

“Our stores are gorgeous,” she said. “They’re a far cry from what they looked like 40 or 50 years ago.”
