Thick smoke blanketed most of Flagler County Sunday morning, particularly west of Interstate 95. Though there were no significant changes overnight, officials urge residents to remain cognizant of the situation.

The following is adapted from a release by the Flagler County Emergency Operations Center:

There were no significant changes in last night’s fires. The crews will work aggressively today to improve and maintain the existing fire lines. We want to encourage residents not to get complacent over the next few days, as there have been no significant fire changes.

We are closely monitoring the situation for potential changing winds over the next few days. The residents just need to keep situational awareness of the surroundings and report new fires to Flagler Emergency Services through 911.

Flagler County would like to take this time to thank the community and the surrounding communities for the outpour of support in which we have received from both the volunteers assisting at the Emergency Operations Center, and the constant donations we have received for the firefighting efforts such as bottled water and other sealed-package, nonperishable foods.

This release was the 11 a.m. update.
