FPC defeated Matanzas, 16-7, Tuesday, March 1, in a crosstown showdown in boys lacrosse.

The brisk wind had no negative impact on the Flagler Palm Coast scoring attack Tuesday, March 1, as the Bulldogs lacrosse team defeated crosstown rival and district foe Matanzas, 16-7.

The Bulldogs were powered by Shane Noble and Wes Adams, who combined for 11 of FPC’s 16 goals.

FPC (3-0) began scoring early and often, with Noble scoring four goals and Adams scoring two in the first quarter, staking FPC out to a 6-1 lead.

The second quarter was all FPC. Adams scored three more goals, and the Bulldogs outscored Matanzas 6-1. The Bulldogs led 14-2 at halftime.

With a running clock in the second half, the Bulldogs led 16-3 heading into the fourth quarter.

Matanzas (1-2) managed four goals in the fourth quarter, but came up short as the clock hit double zeros.

Noble finished with six goals, and Adams finished with five goals and three assists.

FPC coach Ryan Andrews said the Matanzas defense would focus on shutting down Noble or Adams. But when one wasn’t scoring, the other one was. The Bulldogs outshot the Pirates, and a lot of that is attributed to practice, Andrews said.

“We’ve been working a lot on our stick skills,” Andrews said after the game, adding that more than half the practice time has been dedicated to honing those technical skills.

The Bulldogs, who are off to their first 3-0 start under Andrews, are also undefeated in district play. They will host Ponte Vedra on Tuesday then set off on two straight road district games against Father Lopez and Lake Mary.

The district comprises FPC, Matanzas, Father Lopez, Lake Mary, Seminole and Winter Springs.

Matanzas lost to Lake Mary, 14-3, on Friday, Feb. 25, and will travel to play 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 4, at University.

“(FPC) executed their game better than we did tonight,” Matanzas coach Greg Kong said. “Hopefully we’ll see them in (the district tournament).”
