Europa lounge’s new owner Tiffany Burckhalter, 28, left Palm Coast years ago because she found the town too dull, and returned to help give it a new spark of life.

“One of the reasons I left is that there’s no entertainment,” Burckhalter said. “So I’d like to try to offer that to our guests.”

Burckhalter returned to Palm Coast from Charleston, S.C., less than two weeks ago, and closed on Europa in European Village last week.

The lounge has been closed since November, she said. Its planned reopening — slated for sometime this week, though Burckhalter hasn’t selected a day — coincides with renovations on the plaza’s central square. European Village had many closed shops for months, and Burckhalter would like to see it bounce back.

A poster on the lounge’s door advertises Hip Hop Night and Under 20 Sunday, two events she’d like to run regularly along with a Country Night, Metro Night and Ladies’ Night.

Burckhalter hopes to draw in a diverse group of patrons. “It’s hard to find places like that. Usually it’s one crowd,” she said. “I want it to be some place that people can be classy, dress up and go out, without having to drive to Daytona or St. Augustine.”

Le Rendez-Vous

Across the plaza at Le Rendez-Vous French restaurant, Bryan Cabrera said he’s seen increasing business since in European Village since he became manager at Le Rendez-Vous two months ago.

“It’s coming back now,” he said. “It’s gotten a lot better.” Le Rendez-Vous has been open for about five months.

Cabrera looks forward to the changes planned for the center of the plaza, which he’s been told will hold a stage for live music.

It’ll be done just in time for the start of the season, he said, when people with winter homes in places like The Hammock come down from their houses in the Northeast.

Le Rendez-Vous will be ready too, he said. The restaurant has added fondue to its menu, as well as Nutella and strawberry jam crepes. Once a month, Cabrera holds a five-course wine dinner, bringing out a different bottle to accompany each course.

He said he’s optimistic about European Village and Le Rendez-Vous’ future there. “It used to be just two or three tables a night,” he said. “Now it’s packed.”
