As weather in the tropics is being monitored, Flagler County officials are encouraging residents to sign up for the CodeRED weather warning notifications and for those requiring additional assistance to apply for the special needs evacuation shelter registry.
“Weather conditions can change rapidly,” Flagler County Public Safety Emergency Manager Steve Garten said in a Flagler County government news release. “We especially want to make sure we have everyone with special needs registered as we head into the peak of hurricane season – September and October.”
More specifically, individuals who should register for special needs evacuation sheltering are people who require assistance with daily living or who have medical conditions that prevent or hinder their ability to care for themselves.
Residents with computer access can register for either or both online at www.flagleremergency.com.

“We as a county are making the necessary preparations to take care of the health and safety of our residents,” said County Administrator Craig Coffey. “Signing up for these services now will help us to help you in the future.”
The city of Palm Coast’s ninth annual Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup, to be held Saturday, Sept. 10, is being sponsored this year by 12 generous sponsors who provide support that’s needed to make the annual event a success, according to a city of Palm Coast government news release.
This year’s sponsors include:
· Florida Inland Navigation District (F.I.N.D.), which awarded the city a $5,000 grant to purchase cleaning supplies for volunteers. This is the seventh year F.I.N.D. has provided a grant, with the district’s contribution totaling $45,000 over the years.
· Marineland Dolphin Adventure, which has donated $200 in gift certificates for volunteer prizes
· Tropical Kayaks, which is providing free tandem kayaks by reservation to assist volunteers with the cleanup
· Ripple Effect, which donated a $210 kayaking eco-tour(s) as 2 volunteer prizes
· Waste Pro, which has supported the Cleanup every year since it started in 2008, provides the temporary dumpsters for event-day collection
· Stone Engineering Group Inc., McKim & Creed, C.T. Hsu + Associates, P.A., Environmental Land Services, CPH Engineers, Inc. each making a $100 donation
· Publix, which provided direct event support and a $100 gift card
· High Tides at Snack Jack restaurant, $50 donation and two $25 gift cards.
“The city of Palm Coast truly appreciates our sponsors for supporting the annual Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup, which is so important for keeping our trails and waterways clean and open for everyone including our wildlife to enjoy," city Administration Coordinator Denise Bevan, coordinator of the Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup, said in the news release. “We could not be successful with this event without our dedicated community partners and faithful volunteers.”
There’s still time to sign up to volunteer for the ninth annual Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup. Community volunteers will remove trash in and along the Intracoastal Waterway, its walkways and canals. Walkers can clean Palm Coast’s paths and trails, and boaters can work in saltwater canals and Intracoastal waters.
The clean-up adventure will begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 10 at the Palm Coast Community Center at 305 Palm Coast Parkway NE, where supplies will be distributed to commence the morning activities. Following the cleanup and trash drop-off, volunteers are invited back to the Community Center for refreshments and a special awards ceremony to recognize those who found the most unique “trash.” There will be lots of prizes this year, including gift certificates from our sponsors!
Online registration will remain open until Sept. 8, palmcoastgov.com/icwc, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Community Center. Registration is also welcome on event day, but supplies will be limited; volunteer packages are guaranteed only for those who pre-register by Aug. 20. T-shirts are no longer available.
