Flagler County deputies arrested a North Carolina man wanted for an attempted murder in Dunn, N.C. after they saw his car driving slowly around the parking lot of Walmart at 174 Cypress Point Parkway Thursday evening.
It started when deputies ran the tag on a black Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Erwin, N.C., resident Glen Allen Stewart, 24. The tag came back as revoked for a lapse in insurance coverage, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.
Dispatchers alerted the deputy who ran the tag that the car was involved in a violent crime in Dunn, N.C., and that the driver may be Stewart, who was wanted for attempted murder and may be armed and dangerous.
The deputies stopped the car, and Stewart showed them a social security card and North Carolina driver’s license in the name of Alphonso Bristow Jr., according to the news release.
But deputies got a description of Stewart from North Carolina officials, and the description matched the man in front of them: Stewart had the words “Born to Die” tattooed across the knuckles of both hands. They determined that Stewart and Bristow were the same person.
When deputies searched the car, they several rounds of 9 mm ammunition, a ski mask, gloves and $2600 in cash, according to the news release.
They took Stewart to the Flagler County jail, where he is being held without bond.
He is charged with being a fugitive from justice on the North Carolina charges of first-degree attempted murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, and locally on charges of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and resisting arrest without violence.
