Details: More than 1,000 lifeguards will compete for individual and team honors in the United State Lifesaving Association National Lifeguard Championships from Aug. 9 -12. Professional lifeguards from age 16 to 80 and junior lifeguards from age nine to 15 will compete in water and beach events. Admission is free for the annual competition. Details: United Women Flagler will host its 9th annual Power of the Purse dinner and silent auction at Club de Bonmont at Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club on Aug. 21. Details: “The Sheltering Tree” is the only weather shelter for homeless in Flagler County. Tickets to the fundraiser are $20 and should be purchased in advanced. All the proceeds will benefit the charity, and donations are tax deductible. The shelter is run by the Flagler County Family Assistance Center.

Where: Holland Park, 18 Florida Park Drive
Details: The 10th annual cleanup will start at Holland Park, where supplies will be distributed. After the cleanup and trash drop-off, participants will be invited back to Holland Park for refreshments and an awards ceremony to recognize those who find the most unique “trash.” Pre-registration is available until Saturday, Aug. 19 on palmcoastgov.com/icwc and at Palm Coast City Hall and Frieda Zamba Swimming Pool. Participants can register the day of the event at Holland Park, but supplies are limited and can only be guaranteed for those who pre-register.

Details: Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for the free screening of the documentary film “A Ballerina’s Tale” in honor of National Arts in Education Week. The documentary depicts the rise of Misty Copeland, the first female African-American principal dancer of the American Ballet Theatre.
