A 20-year-old Palm Coast man was killed early Tuesday morning when he struck a mailbox and was launched from his Honda motorcycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Codie Ray Barolow, of the P-section, was traveling eastbound on Pacific Drive around 3:30 a.m. Jan. 1, as he neared a sharp curve in the road.

Barlow failed to negotiate the curve by driving off onto the east shoulder/swale and struck a mailbox in front of a home. The motorcycle began to overturn, and Barlow was ejected.

The motorcycle came to a final rest in front of the next house on Pacific Drive, and Barlow came to a final rest two houses down from the mailbox he struck, according to the report.

Barlow was not wearing a helmet, and the report states speed was a factor.

An alcohol and drug test is pending, according to troopers.

A neighbor heard the crash at 3:30 a.m. and witnessed the damaged mailbox.

“She thought a vehicle struck her neighbors mailbox,” the report states. “The neighbor did not see (the motorcycle or Barlow).”

Around 7:30 a.m., the same neighbor came out of her house to check the damaged mailbox and to get her newspaper when she found Barlow and his motorcycle, the report states.
