Leidel Drive resident Lisa Ann Velasquez was arrested on drug charges on June 17 and taken from her Palm Coast home, while her 5-year-old son was sleeping within arm's reach of fentanyl. About $8,000 in drugs, including meth and cocaine, were discovered, all packaged for sale.

The amount of fentanyl seized by detectives from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office was enough to kill over 5,000 adults; 2-3 milligrams is considered a lethal dose.

Detectives contacted the Florida Department of Children and Families to help make arrangements for Velasquez's son, as well as two other children who were visiting family.

The FCSO's Special Investigations Unit, with the assistance of the FCSO SWAT team, served the search warrant on June 17. Residents had notified the FCSO of suspected drug sales occurring from the residence, and SIU confirmed those suspicions through a series of covert operations, which ultimately led to the search warrant.

Detectives identified 32-year-old Velazquez as the seller, and she was at home when the search warrant was executed. Velazquez’s 5-year-old son was also found to be at the residence sleeping in Velazquez’s bedroom, where loose fentanyl had been cut into lines for snorting, on top of a waist-high dresser.

“We are always encouraging our residents to report suspicious activity to us through our See Something, Say Something campaign, and this shows that it is working,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in a press release. “Our detectives take all tips seriously, and in this case they were able to take trafficking amounts of drugs off of our streets and away from the small children in the house that could have very easily ingested these drugs and fallen ill or been killed.”

Velazquez was arrested and transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility. She remains in jail on a $71,500 bond.

Additional felony charges are pending on Velazquez.
