A 14-year-old Indian Trails Middle School student who didn't return home from school yesterday has been found safe, according to a Flagler County Sheriff's Office news release.
The Sheriff's Office sent the local press a news release at 12:07 a.m. Dec. 4 saying that the girl, a resident of Palm Coast's F Section, hadn't come home from school and might be in the Ormond Beach area with an "adult male known only as 'Mario.'"
The girl had sent text messages through social media from school saying she did not want to ride the bus home, and "Mario" sent her a text message "offering to pick her up from school presumably to take her home," according to the news release. "She is believed to have been seen getting into his car with him voluntarily," the release continued.
Flagler County deputies searched for her at night with help from Volusia County deputies and Ormond Beach police officers.
At 5:48 a.m. Dec. 4, the Sheriff's Office sent another news release saying the girl had been found "safe and uninjured" in Ormond Beach between 4:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., and was heading back to Flagler County.
"Any possible charges are still being determined," according to the news release.
