Michael Schottey, owner of Nova Digital Marketing and Consulting and formerly the city of Palm Coast's communications officer, has filed to run for the position of mayor of Palm Coast. Schottey is also vice president of the board of Mad Dogs Flag Football of Palm Coast.
"I love Palm Coast,” Schottey said in a news release issued May 1. “That love for this city led me to want to make this city an even better place than it is today. People have been asking me to run for office for years now, and this is the right time for that to happen.”
In the May 1 press release, Schottey listed five priorities: first responders; business friendliness; better partnerships with the county, other municipalities and other stakeholders; mental health and community health; and responsible development.
"As citizens, we should be able to trust our leaders and truly believe that everything they do is in our best interest, and for our benefit," Schottey said in a video posted on his Facebook page. "... I also believe that leadership should actually lead, responding to the needs of all citizens, not just reacting to the loudest voices in the room or to the power brokers who know which levels to pull."
Schottey has a bachelor's degree in liberal arts studies from Martin Luther College and is pursuing a master's of public administration at Park University, according to a profile posted on his campaign webpage, http://www.schottey2020.com.
"By working together with all of our citizens, entrepreneurs, nonprofit organizations and other leaders at all levels of government," Schottey said in the video, "not only can we survive these trying times, but I am convinced that we can thrive and make this fantastic city even better tomorrow than we find it today."
