Twelve lifters from Matanzas qualified for the sectional meet after placing in the top four of their respective weight classes on Monday at the first of two subsectional qualifiers.

“The kids hit some really good lifts today in preparation of the sectional qualifier at Baker County,” Matanzas coach Joey Lippo said. “There is still room for improvement as always. We are happy with where the kids are at this point, but we have to put on a better performance as a team.”

Matanzas did finish in first place out of six teams at the meet, tallying 61 teams points — 11 points ahead of second-place Palatka (50).

Three lifters — Isaiah Lugo, Dakota Manford and Dyllan Fagas — will travel to Bradford High School on Friday to lift in the second subsectional to try and qualify for sectionals.
