Man tries to walk out of Palm Coast Walmart with merchandise in pants

Matthew Johnson was take to the Flagler County Inmate Facility and charged with shoplifting/retail theft.

A man was arrested after he allegedly tried to walk out of Palm Coast's Walmart with several stolen items in his pants, according to a charging affidavit by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the Walmart located at 174 Cypress Point Parkway on Friday, June 8, in reference to a shoplifter in custody with loss prevention. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a male exiting the store. The man, 40-year-old Matthew Victor Johnson, initially told deputies he hadn’t taken anything.

Anthony DePasquale, an asset protection associate, told deputies that he saw Johnson go into the electronics area, select a Bluetooth speaker and place the speaker down the front of his pants before exiting the store through the general merchandise entrance.

APA stated that three items, worth a total of $260.87, were taken. In addition, Johnson had previous BOLOs within the Walmart network for shoplifting.

He was take to the Flagler County Inmate Facility and charged with shoplifting/retail theft.
