An Islamorada man sustained critical injuries in a car crash on Interstate 95 in Flagler County when the car he was riding in was rear-ended by a fatigued driver at about 11:08 p.m. on July 9.

The crash also left a woman and five children with minor injuries.

The Islamorada man was in the front passenger seat of a southbound sport utility driven by a 46-year-old Key Largo woman when the SUV was rear-ended near mile marker 283 by an SUV driven by a 44-year-old Georgia man. The Islamorada victim's age was listed as unknown in a Florida Highway Patrol report on the crash.

The SUV driven by the Key Largo woman crossed the middle and outside lanes of the road, hit multiple trees and came to rest on the shoulder, while the Georgia man's SUV veered onto the shoulder and struck some brush.

The Georgia resident who caused the crash "was fatigued and failed to control the speed" of his SUV, according to the FHP report.

The Islamorada man in the front passenger seat of the woman's SUV was extricated by rescuers and taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in critical but stable condition, according to the FHP report.

The Key Largo woman had minor injuries, as did three 13-year-old boys riding in her SUV.

The Georgia man had no listed injuries. Two 13-year-old girls riding in his SUV had minor injuries.
