A Palm Coast man found a hand grenade in a small box in his father's garage on Cherry Court in Palm Coast April 17, according to a case report by the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

"(The man) further advised his father was in World War II and this grenade is possibly from that era," a deputy wrote in a case report. "A quick examination of the grenade revealed the bottom of it is still intact along with the pin and spoon, indicating it may be live."

The man told a deputy that he'd been visiting his father because his father has been ill and that the man found the grenade while cleaning out the garage.

The Sheriff's Office contacted the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office bomb squad to handle the grenade.
