Man arrested for attempted murder after violently stabbing and beating his roommate

Steven Schneider was located and secured without incident; the victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Oct. 13, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a stabbing on Berkshire Lane in Palm Coast. The caller reported that his neighbor showed up at his residence asking him to call 9-1-1 after his roommate, identified as Steven Schneider, attacked him with a knife and hammer.

Responding deputies observed that both of the victim’s hands were bandaged and bleeding, with lacerations to his shoulder and multiple bruises on his back and face. Throughout the residence, large amounts of blood were observed leading toward the front door of the residence.

The victim stated that he and his mother were inside the master bedroom watching television when Schneider walked into the bedroom and began looking through his closet. When asked what he was doing, Schneider charged at the victim with a large knife in one hand and a hammer in the other. The victim was struck by the hammer and stabbed with the knife numerous times during the struggle, but the victim ultimately was able to leave the residence and flee to safety. The victim ran to a neighbor’s home and law enforcement was called.

Schneider fled from the residence in his vehicle which was then located nearby in an unoccupied in a vacant lot. Deputies observed blood inside the vehicle and began a search of the area attempting to locate Schneider using K-9s and Volusia Sheriff’s Air 1. Schneider was ultimately located and secured without incident. The victim received medical attention on scene and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“This was remarkable investigative work by everyone involved,” Sheriff Staly said. “Thankfully the injuries the victim sustained do not appear life-threatening, and we hope he will make a full recovery.”

Schneider was arrested for Attempted Murder and transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
