A man was arrested in Palm Coast on Sunday, Oct. 1, after allegedly attempting to set his parents’ home on fire following an argument, according to a charging affidavit by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responding to the call saw 23-year-old Hayden Callahan leaving the residence, located at 10 S. Shady Lane, and asked him to stop.

Hayden’s father, Britt Callahan, told deputies that he and his wife, Suzan, had an argument with Hayden over a cable box for his room. Britt then told deputies that Hayden stated he would burn the home down, according to the report.

After the argument, Britt and his wife were sitting in the living room when they started to smell a burning odor in the home. Britt told deputies that he and his wife then saw smoke and flames emitting from Hayden’s room.

Britt said that when he entered the room, he saw that Hayden had built a teepee of wood over a t-shirt and newspaper. Britt told deputies that he kicked the teepee over, stomped out the flames and threw the shirt into the bathroom sink.

Hayden said he never made a statement about burning the house down and that he had the fire under control should something happen, according to the report.

He was taken to the Flagler County Inmate Facility and was charged with arson structure.
