Witnesses told deputies that the shooting followed an argument.
A 23-year-old man was hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds the night of Nov. 1 after an argument led to violence.
Witnesses told deputies that two men, the victim and a 21-year-old, had been arguing at 98 Knox Jones Avenue, a home next to the Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Espanola. Statements differed as to who had the gun and how it was fired, according to a Flagler County Sheriff's Office Commander's Report entry.
A witness who called 911 told dispatchers that the suspect's vehicle, a gray car, fled the scene and was heading west on County Road 13, according to an FCSO case report.
A deputy dispatched to the scene at 9:58 p.m. arrived and found Flagler County Fire Rescue crews already aiding the victim, who was lying in the street.
Fire Station 51 was just a few hundred feet away from the scene of the shooting, and crews there had been awoken by gunshots. Moments later, someone banged on the front door of the station, according to a statement posted on the Flagler County Professional Firefighters' Local 4337 union Facebook page.
The victim had multiple gunshots wounds to the chest and arms and was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach by the University of Florida's TraumaOne helicopter, according to the Local 4337 Facebook post.
The deputy who arrived at the scene and wrote the case report did not see the suspect's car, but deputies were able to later identify the name of the suspect. The FCSO's Investigative Services Division and Crime Scene Unit responded to process the crime scene.
