LIVE UPDATES: FPC, Matanzas wrestlers at state meet

LAKELAND — Seven area wrestlers are in action today and tomorrow at the Florida High School Athletic Association’s state wrestling tournament.

FLAGLER PALM COAST

195 pounds
Jonathan Muniz gets pinned by Luis Hernandez (40-14) in 3 minutes, 45 seconds. Muniz (39-9) will have to go through the wrestle-back bracket. He’ll face Carlton Armstrong (36-9) first. 

Muniz advances after his opponent forfeits. 

160 pounds
Justin Boyle loses an 8-5 decision to Eric Perez (35-1) in the first round. Boyle (39-9) will face David Towers (46-5) in the wrestle-back bracket.

Boyle will advance in the first round of wrestle-backs because his opponent, David Towers, sustained an injury. 

132 pounds
Kaz Maia lost to John Cruz (North Port), on a major decision, 18-9, in the first round. Maia (38-6) moves over to the wrestle-back bracket to face Nixon Chavez (20-6).

Maia knocks off Chevez with an 8-2 decision.

120 pounds
Alfred Shavers, Flagler Palm Coast’s lone regional champ, cruised to a first-round win over Kizhan Clarke (Riverview) with a fall in 5 minutes, 46 seconds. Shavers (40-4) will face Southwest’s Franco Valdez (46-3) in the quarterfinals.
 
Shavers lost in the quarterfinals on an 8-6 decision. He moves over to the wrestle-back bracket.

113 pounds

Jake Kosachiner lost to Nicholas Villamil (Braddock), 6-4, in the first round. Kosachiner (36-6) moves into the wrestle-back side of the bracket and will face Andrew Mitchell (29-13).

Kosachiner topped Mitchell, 3-2, in the first round of wrestle-backs.

Kosachiner wins a 10-5 decision in the second round of wrestle-backs. He's into Saturday's competition.

MATANZAS

182 pounds
Jordin Castanheira was pinned by Max Reynolds (37-2) in 1:22 in the first round. Castanheira (19-17) will move to the wrestle-back side of the bracket and face Damon McCurry (42-6).

Castanheira's season is over after he loses a major decision to McCurry, 10-1.

170 pounds
Clayton Dennis (40-8) pinned Ty McLeod in 5 minutes, 48 seconds, to pick up a first-round win. Dennis will face Ariel Jiminez (24-10) in the next round. Jiminez advanced via a forfeit.
