Former Matanzas weightlifting coach Joey Lippo resigned from the Flagler County School District on Wednesday morning.
Lippo confirmed he handed in his resignation and has accepted a full-time position as a physical education teacher and strength and conditioning coach at Pedro Menendez High School.
"Coach Lippo will be part of our football staff and strength coach for boys and girls," said Terry Sapp, athletics director at Pedro Menendez.
A petition had been floating around this summer to reinstate Lippo as the weightlifting coach at Matanzas. He was told by Matanzas’ administration that he couldn’t be a weightlifting coach if he wasn’t on the football team’s coaching staff.
