Why pay $340,200 so people can run red lights?

Dear Editor:

I am still confused as to why so many people want to run a red light or two each year, especially since it will cost the city $340,200 a year for them to have that privilege.

Editor’s Note: To clarify the math, the city used to get $700 per month per camera. At 43 cameras, that was $361,200 per year. Now, the city will get $350 per month for five cameras, or $21,000 per year.

Red light camera contract should have had an out clause

Dear Editor:

Has anyone dared to ask the government representatives of Palm Coast, who are supposedly qualified to negotiate deals for the city and electorate, why they negotiated a deal like the extension signed with ATS until 2019 with no out clause?

Because to an outsider who has some experience in negotiations with a major interstate agency, it seems they intentionally entered it to either hamper attempts to limit the contract by referendum) or, worse yet, bargaining with no idea of the possible pitfalls.
