Garage sale permits are a sign of overreaching government
Dear Editor:
Some may find this news story rather trivial, while others (like myself) find it offensive. However, this particular story is a reflection of a much larger problem facing America: a tyrannical form of government that now operates in our midst, a government that seeks to control the people and remove the rights that were given to us by God.
The problem in America is that the indoctrination practices of government over decades is now yielding its destructive fruit; a dumbed-down society of weak citizens who look to the government as their saving grace.
As a former police supervisor from New Jersey, I have had the opportunity to work with local government officials and code enforcement officers. What I found were individuals who had no fear of the people because of the exact statements I made above. What truly disturbed me were the attitudes of many code enforcement officers who operated as "kings" and delighted in their ability to come against the rights of the people. This is now what we are seeing with this particular story.
Do you truly own your property? Are you truly a free people? The answer is no. Thomas Jefferson said, "When the government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."
And what we see is a government that has no fear of its people. So they operate outside of the Constitution and try to control all aspects of our lives. If your grass is too tall, you will find a representative of this repressive state trespassing on your property to document and issue you a citation.
And now they want to further inconvenience the people they work for by implementing a fee (tax). So it's now my understanding that if you decide to have a yard sale, they will (1) force you to pay a fee to sell your property, (2) force you to register to sell your own property and (3) fine you for violating their oppressive rules. Essentially they want to control what you are doing on your property.
They say they are looking out for your best interests and even touch on the issue of traffic. But their own words admit that this won't necessarily address the traffic issue. This is truly disgusting, and anyone who votes for such measures should be voted out of office immediately. But you see, they are banking on a misinformed public with no back bone to stand against their tyranny.
The government needs to stop trampling on the rights of Americans. Do you think I'm being overly dramatic? It's our failure to stand for the simple injustices that allows for the larger ones to take place and root in our lives. And that is why Americans are facing the kind of constitutional violations by the Obama regime, which for the most part has been allowed by the American people. It’s time to wake up.

It’s better for people to make money on garage sales than to see empty homes
Dear Editor:
You've got to be kidding me! If the city of Palm Coast wasn't so picky about what business entities to accept in our community to bring in tax dollars and give our citizens jobs, perhaps we wouldn't need to hold so many garage sales to pay our bills.
And for all those who feel this is a good idea, may I suggest you relocated to a quaint area known as The Villages where rules and restrictions are the game of the day.
I prefer to have a neighbor who has many garage sales to pay the mortgage than see a home abandoned with weeds growing like grass creating the perfect eyesore like the one located next door to me. Wake up, Palm Coast!

Garage sale permit penalizes all for the misdeeds of a few
Dear Editor:
Now that the city officials have cracked down on a councilman's neighbors excessive weekend garage sales (which penalize the one-time or occasional resident's sales), it raises the question: Is there a fee for politicians who decorate the landscape for months with their signs which are essentially selling themselves? If not, why not?

If DeLorenzo wants to know about garage sales, read the Penny Saver
Dear Editor:
If Mr. DeLorenzo is so concerned with garage sales in Palm Coast, let me suggest he start by picking up the free Penny Saver at the end of his driveway.
He can then sit down at his City Council seat. He can then use the city-supplied computer the taxpayers gave him and record all garage sales in Palm Coast.
There will be no need for a $5 dollar fee to cover the administrative cost because he will be handling it himself.

School Board’s half-cent sales tax passed, unfortunately
Dear Editor:
I wrote a letter to the editor last month about how I thought the new sales tax would pass. It did! I don’t like it, but I was right.
To keep from being known as a sore loser, I want to congratulate the teachers, the teachers union and their friends on the School Board for helping to keep the U.S. ranked No. 1 in one educational category. Although U.S. students rank 27th in math in the world, with your help we shall always remain No. 1 in educational spending per pupil and in experts who say we should throw more money at the problem.
Do you reckon the $4 million per year that you will get from the tax can help move us up to 26th in math or will this money pay for another raise for the teachers?
We do deserve the schools that we have, but the students don’t.
