County Commission ignores interests of taxpayers

Dear Editor:
Our county commissioners are doing it to us again. Everyone should re-read the Oct. 3 edition of the Palm Coast Observer. The commission voted 4-1 to scrap impact fees. They also voted to keep the half-cent sales tax for possibly another 20 years. Only Alan Peterson voted against scrapping the impact fees, and he objected to imposing the tax for an indefinite period of time without a public vote.

This commission has been doing everything it wants for its special interests for years. It does not care what the average taxpayers, who made and pay for this county, want.

We all paid our impact fees when we bought our houses. If we sell our houses now, that fee is part of our loss. There are plenty of houses that need to be sold in our county that carry that burden. The only ones benefiting from this vote are some of the commissioners, their friends and the special interests.

Everyone should know by now what this group of commissioners has been doing to our county. They refuse to listen to what the majority of the taxpayers want, or don't want. Our only chance to change that, and save our county, is to vote them out.

We have a chance to start now at our upcoming election. Please don't miss this opportunity to begin removing the commissioners who think we should be happy to pay for what they want. Vote them out!

Smart meter protesters are laughable. Give it a rest.

Dear Editor:
Thanks for the hearty laugh this morning via the article, “Meter upgrade brings protests.”

I immediately envisioned a tin-foil hatted “mob” protesting these horrible, nonexistent “waves” and ominous eyes in the sky. The protesters have a panic level similar to the scene in the original “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” fearing the pod people are here to take mom, sis and Uncle Bill.

Seemed to make a look back quite warranted, e.g., who needs forks when fingers work just fine? Besides, you might poke your eye out. Who needs gas-powered engines when horses work just fine?

Oh, please. Give it a rest.

Smart meters part of a mass conspiracy to trap everyone

Dear Editor:
U.N. Agenda 21 strikes again! It started with the General Plan and land-use zoning changes. It moved from a handful of red light cameras into 50 or so. Out of nowhere, we are getting electronic weigh stations on Interstate 95 off-ramps. And finally, we the sheeple have been blessed with a notice in the mail that we will be receiving the new smart meter on our homes.

Based on the phone conversation I had with a Florida Power & Light representative, they (an unelected commission) will be deciding whether or not I will be allowed to opt out! Their language, not mine. If it's so innocuous, why must I accept it at the “point of a gun”?

This is the framework being built, which I mentioned in a previous letter to the editor.

Sustainable development. Regionalization. Smart growth. Smart grids. Smart meters. All buzz words and jargon used to feed the sheeple the candy. Once they get everyone feeding, the gate will slam shut. And it will be too late.

City of Palm Coast used be a great place to retire

Dear Editor:
Over 10 years ago, my wife and I decided to retire in Palm Coast. This was before Palm Coast became a city. It was a wonderful place with just the right mix of city and country and population density. It had nature, trees and water.

Much to our dismay, Palm Coast became a city and the problems began. First came the added expense of an additional layer of government, which we certainly didn't need. Then all the other expenses required to build Palm Coast into a city. Our politicians were spending our money like there was no tomorrow, and many fell under the spell of less-than-honest developers, and the cry of the day was: “We want money and growth.”

This was a step in the direction of destroying the main reason people moved to Palm Coast, which was that this place was the right size and didn’t need change.

My wife and I have watched a bunch of greedy government leaders systematically destroy our wonderful city by wasting money, while repeatedly raising our taxes even in bad economic times. Now they are limiting our social freedoms, requiring garage sale permits, which punishes all for the infractions of a few. This is bad leadership.

Sadly, what disturbs us most is seeing residents sit back and do nothing about what is going on. Shouldn’t we the people be part of what’s happening in our city?

Maybe the time has come for a little civil disobedience, and for the people to rise up and take charge of the direction Palm Coast is heading. It’s time we get rid of the people that are ruining our city and replace them. After all, they are supposed to represent us.
