LETTER: Raising concerns about planned expansion of the Eagle Lakes subdivision

It is imperative that all concerned attend the TRC meeting to show the county this increased density is not wanted.

Dear Editor:

The planned expansion of 1,193 homes in Eagle Lakes subdivision off Old Kings Road South at the Volusia County line will have a second opportunity to answer questions at the Technical Review Committee meeting Jan. 19 at 9 a.m. in the Flagler County Commission chambers at Government Services Building, First Floor, 1769 E. Moody Blvd., Building 2, Bunnell, FL 32110. (Same location as Driver’s License and Tax payments.)

The development owner is Venture 8; however, the site plans presented for approval are by Kolter Homes, with a Better Business Bureau rating of B-. The property purchase by Kolter is contingent on Flagler County approval of the planned and expected increased density. To achieve this increase, many of the homes will be 1,000 square feet.

It is imperative that all concerned attend the TRC meeting to show the county this increased density is not wanted.

In addition to the proposed high density, issues of concern include not holding the developer responsible for road improvements due to increased traffic counts; and not considering the two Wexford Preserve developments under construction immediately south of Eagle Lakes.

Traffic from both developments of 1,462 new homes will now exit onto two-lane Old Kings Road.

Both the land owner and proposed developer are represented by attorney Michael Chiumento.

Editor's Note: Arnoff is a member of Citizens Monitoring Development. Also, according to Flagler County staff, while the Technical Review Committee meeting is open to the public, it is not a public hearing for public comment. In the matters that require public hearings, they will follow appropriate public notice. The density proposed is 1-3 units per acre. Staff added: "A traffic study has been provided by the applicant demonstrating that they meet concurrency requirements of the Flagler County Land Development Code."
