The ninth-annual Great Pumpkin Shootout took place Oct. 15 and Oct. 16, at the Indian Trails Sports Complex.
Falling leaves, cooler weather and freshly cut grass are all signs that fall has arrived. And in Palm Coast, there is another sign of fall: hundreds of lacrosse games.
The Great Pumpkin Shootout took place Oct. 15 and Oct. 16, at the Indian Trails Sports Complex, in Palm Coast.
This was the ninth installment of the 7-on-7 tournament, which featured 10 teams in 2003.
This year’s tournament hosted 70 teams from across the state.
Tom West, tournament organizer, said he was encouraged by the city’s willingness to work together to enhance the facilities to help keep the tournament in Palm Coast.
“Each of these events brings thousands of people to the county — filling the hotels, restaurants and gas stations,” West said. “It’s great for the area.”
Mike Jones, who coached the Flagler Buccanneers, a team comprising high-school players, said the 7-on-7 format gives players the ability to develop their spatial awareness.
“In such a short field, creating any type of fast break or unsettled situation is how you score 90% of your goals,” Jones said. “The players really have to improvise a lot, as there are no set plays or prescribed game plans.”
