‘Through heat or cold, fire or flood’

The Kiwanis Club recognized local firefighters for their commitment, dedication and courage Wednesday, Nov. 17, when the club gave out its 2010 Firefighter of the Year awards.

“These unsung heroes and heroines in our four fire departments are on the job 24/7, 365 days a year, watching out for our citizens and our communities,” said Kiwanian Frank Constantino. “When that bell rings, the trucks roll out through heat or cold, fire or flood, hurricane or calm.”

The 2010 awards were presented to volunteer firefighter Zach Hoffman, of the Bunnell Fire Department; Assistant Chief Shane Wood, of the Flagler Beach Fire Department; firefighter and paramedic Denise Pressy, of Flagler County Emergency Services; and Lt. Larry Ruggieri, of the Palm Coast Fire Department.

HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS HONORED

The Kiwanis Club also recognized November Seniors of the Month. Each month, two seniors who have excelled academically and in extracurricular activities are recognized by the club.

Jasmine Dwyer, of Matanzas High School, and Kaci Ellis, of Flagler Palm Coast High School, were presented with the November Senior of the Month awards.

Rebecca Wight, of Matanzas, was recognized as one of the seniors for October because she was unable to attend last month.
