Kiwanis gives $36,000 toward higher education

The Flagler/Palm Coast Kiwanis Club recognized scholarship winners and teachers of the year at its 12th-annual Education Recognition Luncheon Wednesday, May 6, held at the Palm Coast Yacht Club. The club awarded a total of $36,000 in scholarships to 10 Flagler County seniors; including two $8,000 Kiwanis Foundation Scholarships awarded to Samantha Meyer, of Flagler Palm Coast High School, and Stefano Schibeci, of Matanzas High School.

Also recognized were Seniors of the Year Haley McQueen, of Matanzas, and Marianna Sbordone, of FPC, each receiving $2,000 scholarships. The FPC Key Club Scholarship was awarded to Nathan Monsanto and Kiwanis Club Scholarships were awarded to Isabel Voskoboynik and Gabriel Orren, of FPC, and Brian Reynolds, of Matanzas. FPC’s Todd Cardillo and Matanzas’ Jonathan Guilbe rounded out the scholarship recipients winning the Robert Osner Kiwanis Scholarship, worth $4,000 each.

The Flagler/Palm Coast Kiwanis Club awarded the largest dollar amount in scholarships in the county.

Also recognized at the luncheon were District Principal of the Year Paula St. Francis, of Rymfire Elementary; District and Florida Assistant Principal of the Year Dustin Sims, of FPC; District Teacher of the Year Ed Wolff, of Belle Terre Elementary; and Teachers of the Year Marlene Vazquez, of Bunnell Elementary; Erin Weed, of Buddy Taylor Middle; John Seth, of FPC; Erica Cerasi, of Indian Trials Middle; 1st Sgt. Troy Caraballo, of Matanzas; Brandi Moberly, of Old Kings Elementary; Kathy Baldwin, of Rymfire; and Lesley Poland, of Wadsworth Elementary.
