Kids find a placenta wrapped in a medical pad in a park dumpster

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information from the public after a group of youths found a placenta wrapped in a medical pad in a dumpster at Hidden Trails Park in Bunnell on March 24, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

The Medical Examiner confirmed it was in fact a human placenta on March 26.

“We are asking the public to assist us in solving this mystery and ensuring the mother and infant are OK,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Please call us with any information you may have.”

The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s assistance in determining who may have recently given birth and disposed of the placenta so that the agency can ensure that the infant and mother are safe. There are no criminal charges pending: The objective is to locate the newborn, believed to have been born March 19-23, and ensure the child is safe and healthy.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 386-313-4911 and mention Case Number 2018-00028099. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIP (8477). Crime Stoppers tipsters could be eligible for a reward up to $5,000.
