Friends travel to South Africa with their Palm Coast Observer. They visited the Cape Point Light Tower and the Cape of Good Hope.

The new lighthouse is at a lower elevation than the older one for two reasons. The first lighthouse could be seen too early by ships rounding the point toward the East, causing them to approach too closely. Also, foggy conditions often prevail at higher levels, making the older lighthouse invisitlbe to shipping vessels.
