A 56-year-old truck driver from Jacksonville died early the morning of May 6 after his truck overturned on Interstate 95 in Palm Coast after a collision with a car.

The crash occurred at around 3:19 a.m. near mile marker 294, north of the Matanzas Woods interchange in Palm Coast.

An 18-year-old Palm Coast woman was driving a sedan south in the road's center lane directly in front of the truck when she started to drift into the outside lane, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

"Per driver 1 statement, she was distracted by her phone," the report states.

The woman overcorrected back into the center lane, striking the tractor trailer's right rear wheels.

The truck lost control, left the roadway and overturned, hitting a center median guard rail.

The sedan continued to slide in the center lane and again hit the truck before crossing all of the southbound lanes and coming to rest on its right side on the shoulder of the road, according to the FHP report.

The driver of the tractor trailer died at the scene of the crash. The woman had minor injuries, according to the report.

The FHP has not yet released the names of the drivers.
