Florida Hospital Flagler held a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off the construction of its new offices.

A thin sheet of green Astroturf was spread out like a lumpy runway from the blacktop of Cypress Edge Drive to the dirt-filled construction site of Florida Hospital Flagler’s future medical plaza, where hospital President David Ottati addressed a crowd Sept. 28.

Ottati told the city and county officials, hospital workers and board members in attendance that the 34,000-square-foot facility would be an outpatient satellite clinic to complement the full-service hospital on State Road 100. It will be completed in eight months.

“In every possible way, this is a win-win,” Palm Coast Mayor Jon Netts said. He said the plaza could be a draw to new residents, and it could also boost Palm Coast’s business economy.

Flagler County Board of County Commission Chairman Alan Peterson echoed Netts’ praise.

Employing more than 900, the hospital, Peterson said, is a partner in Flagler. It has provided technical equipment to assist and streamline local emergency services, and it helped save public funds by enabling the city and county to downsize to one medical director.

The Rev. Bob Hayes, of Palm Coast Seventh-day Adventist Church, blessed the site.
