Flagler Palm Coast jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter Friday night and never looked back.

The Bulldogs topped Matanzas, 59-29, in the season finale for both teams. FPC was led in scoring by guard Tyler Hopkins, who scored 18 points. Chris Johnson led the Pirates with 11 points. Ivan Tsabak had six points.

FPC improved to 21-4; Matanzas fell to 8-17.

Both teams now head into their respective district tournaments.

Matanzas will be the No. 4 seed in the District 4-5A tournament. The Pirates play No. 1-seeded Nease 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Nease. Matanzas lost both meetings with Nease this season, though it was a close game Jan. 13, when the Pirates lost, 48-44.

Flagler Palm Coast will play in the District 1-8A championship Saturday, Feb. 11, against the winner of the semifinal game between Sandalwood and Mandarin. FPC beat Sandalwood twice this season by a combined four points. The Bulldogs also beat Mandarin in both matchups by a combined seven points.
