Throughout her adult life, Nancy Dettra has used her gift of hospitality to serve others in her hometown of Reading, Pennsylvania. She welcomed visitors to her United Methodist Church, participated on numerous committees at her alma mater, Albright College, and joined the leadership of several not-for-profit boards. Meanwhile, at home, she planned extravagant holiday meals and dinner parties.

Dettra moved to Tuscan Gardens of Palm Coast in March 2020 and brought with her the gift of hospitality. She serves as an ambassador, welcoming new residents and co-leads the residents’ council, serving as an advocate for others in the community.

In honor of her 90th birthday, Dettra was named a trustee emerita of Albright College. On May 10, she met with the college president, several trustees, and her daughters on Zoom to receive this distinction. Dettra had served as a trustee for 10 years as well as many years on the Alumni Council. Throughout the gathering, stories of Dettra's hospitality to others became a common theme. She was reminded of the many ways she welcomed students, alumni, faculty, staff, and administration.
