Hammock Dunes dune repair project to stage at Jungle Hut Park

The repair project will take place Aug. 15-30. There will be no horse access during construction.

A dune reconstruction project will take place south of Flagler County's Jungle Hut Park Aug. 15-30, and equipment may be staged at the park's parking lot as early as Aug. 10.

“The wooden walkover will still be accessible to users, and if they head north on the beach, it shouldn’t be problematic,” Flagler County Parks and Recreation Supervisor Craig Lenniger said in a county government news release.

The Hammock Dunes Shoreline Management Committee, part of the Hammock Dunes Owner's Association, is overseeing the project, which will cover about 1,500 feet of the north end of the Hammock Dunes shoreline, according to the news release.

Contractors will be using the park as a staging and entry area, and there will be signs and fences around the work area. Horse access to Jungle Hut will be barred; the nearest horse access will be at MalaCompra Park.

Other nearby beach access parks include Bay Drive Park, at 30 Bay Drive; MalaCompra Park, at 115 MalaCompra Road; Old Salt Park, at 200 16th Road; River to Sea Preserve, at 9805 N. Oceanshore Blvd; and Varn Park, t 3665 N. Oceanshore Blvd.
