Hair salons, barbershops and nail salons will begin to reopen in Florida starting on Monday, May 11.

Gov. Ron DeSantis on May 8 shared on Twitter a video featuring J Henry, the owner of J Henry's Barber Shop in Orlando, announcing the change.

“We are ready to get back to work and make some money,” Henry said in the video. “But getting back to work, we want to be safe and continue to wear our gloves, wear masks, book by appointments and continue to keep the community safe. I know everyone is happy to come our and support the barbershops, but we want to keep one thing in mind — safety is always first.”

Salons were not initially included in the Phase 1 portion of the state's reopening plan.

Their reopenings will occur with "enhanced safety protocols," according to the video. The state government had not yet released the reopening protocols for salons, barbershops or nail salons as of the afternoon of May 8.
