Diane Howes has a list of 113 grandparents in Flagler County who have reassumed their parenting roles as they are now raising their grandchildren. She knows the actual number is much higher.

To help these families, Howes offers Grandparents as Parents meetings, four times a year. The next meeting is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 on the third floor at the Government Services Building in Bunnell.

The guest speaker will be Taurean Wilson, the district mental health counselor, who will explain what he does and what resources and services are available to grandparents, through the school district, and Flagler County.

Howes said the unique group of parents quickly discovers they have much in common, and even those initially hesitant to attend, say they are happy they did.

No one to stay with the grandkids?  No problem. A supervised child care, with activities and light snacks will be provided.

The next meetings are scheduled for Thursday, March 3; and Thursday, May 5. For more information, call Howes at 437-7526, ext. 1201.
