The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office has lost one of its four legged officers. The agency learned late Thursday that one of its longtime K-9 officers, Gypsy, a 12-year-old female Belgium Malinois, died Dec. 6.
Gypsy came to the Sheriff’s Office in April 2003 during the first term of Sheriff James L. Manfre.
Gypsy actively served until she was retired from duty in 2009. She was trained in criminal patrol; narcotics detection; and article, building and area searches. She and her handler, former Deputy Sheriff Jamie Roster, worked together since 2003, backing up patrol deputies and assisting the cities of Bunnell and Flagler Beach Police Departments.
K-9 Gypsy was an ambassador for the agency and was often seen with her handler conducting demonstrations at schools and community events throughout the county.
