School supplies for those in need

A golf tournament at Grand Haven Golf Club on Monday, July 27, benefited the students in Flagler County Public Schools who receive school supplies and essential clothing items from the STUFF Bus. The bus delivers supplies to school closets for those students who qualify for assistance.

Tournament organizers Jeri Harper and Andrea Knox invited voluteer STUFF Bus managers, Scott Combs and Pat Bueltman to bring the bus onsite before the tournament. Players brought donations and toured the bus.

First Church Youth Summit

Youth, ages 8 – 17-years old, can sign up for the 2015 First Church Youth Summit on Aug. 15 at 91 Old Kings Road N. The summit will feature guest speakers, Flagler County Sheriff James Manfre, mentor Anthony Brown, Sam Sword, former NFL player, Shenette Howard, Miss Florida International 2006, Nickelodeon host Rahman Johnson and tv personality Shani Lodge.

Breakfast check-in is at 8 a.m.; workshops from 9 a.m. to noon; lunch; talent auditions form 1 to 4 p.m., including a step-show tryout, dance, sports and a concert from 7 to 10 p.m.
The worship service at First Church on Aug. 16, 10 a.m. will highlight the winners of the Youth Talent Showcase.
The conference is free. Seats are limited, sign up by calling, 446-5759.

2015 Citizens Academy in Flagler County

Flagler County is accepting applications for the Fall 2015 Citizens Academy. Classes will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday evenings, from Sept. 10 through Nov. 5. The program is free for all Flagler County residents. Space is limited and early applications are encouraged.


The Flagler County Citizens Academy is held twice a year to introduce residents to the operations and services performed by the Flagler County government. Each weekly session features a presentation by different departments or branches of the county government, including the Board of County Commissioners, constitutional officers, and administrative departments.
The class includes a highly engaging and educational mock county commission meeting with participants taking on the roles of commissioners, county administrator, and as concerned citizens.
